Simply Made For Entertaining…
Most of us love to entertain, especially around the holidays, but many of us also have homes that are not suitable for large groups! The best homes for entertaining are those with open-plan main levels. If you don’t have an open floor plan now, it’s possible that with some rearranging or even REMODELING a brand new space could be created! To create the feel of an open area, use one color for the walls, adding the same accent colors in all three areas – dining, sitting and cooking – to hold the scheme together. Choosing the right furniture is also important; think about size, maneuverability and storage. You must have plenty of seating while maintaining an open flow for traffic; storage is also essential as clutter impedes traffic and makes the space feel congested.
An ATLANTA family wanted to create this open-plan feel in their existing home and chose to REMODEL part of their main level. They chose to work with AK Complete Home Renovations when they realized they needed a PROFESSIONAL DESIGNER to not only redesign the layout of the existing space but to also add on to the home. The planned REMODEL and ADDITION would address the owner’s need for a larger, more livable space by providing them with the following: a large CHEF'S KITCHEN suitable for more than one cook as well as entertaining large groups; an informal eating area still fitting for entertaining that is able to seat many yet leave space for traffic flow; a comfortable and classic living room/den appropriate for family movie nights or a book club meeting, including a fireplace with custom cabinetry, that complements the kitchen.
Striking maple and alder CABINETRY work together in the new KITCHEN to create great accents against the oak wood floor. The custom hood draws the eye to this rear wall of CABINETRY containing the Wolf gas cooktop. Spice pullouts, rollout drawers, and a pantry pullout give this relatively small wall of cabinetry the ultimate in function and storage. Structural support columns were added where the old house ended. To achieve the classic old world feel of the KITCHEN, the columns were encased in the same alder CABINETRY that made the ISLAND. The flawless installation made the supports look like old wooden beams instead of CABINETS. The raised bar facing the new living room was added for entertaining; whether serving food buffet style or as a place for guests to sit, stand, or mingle, the height of the bar keeps food and drinks at a comfortable height.
Notice how the mood and design of the KITCHEN effortlessly flows into the family’s living room, this keeps the separate living spaces still cohesive. The kitchen’s oyster CUSTOM CABINETRY with matching crown molding and rope inset, the granite tops and pulls are all represented in this space; the tumbled stone backsplash seems to have been replaced by a stone fireplace and hearth. This clean, unified look invites guests to treat the large space as one room, and not to just congregate in the kitchen. Imagine the big holiday gatherings that this family can now have! Imagine the memories they will make in their new space!
